Riot Grrrl

Deliverables: HTML Coded Website

Art Direction: Keith Somers

My parents have cultivated my love of music since childhood. Riot Grrrl was an underground movement that began in the 1990s, spreading from music to zines. My website highlights some of the most influential bands and members alongside honoring the history and impact of the movement.

Riot Grrrl is all about giving women a voice.I based the style of the logo and the added drawings on the sketchy looseness of the zines made from that period.

I chose a loud and vibrant color palette with one pastel color to showcase both energy and femininity.

Fonts used are Chinese Rocks and American Typewriter for their edgy and out-there look vs. a freshly printed zine from the copier feel.

Of course I had to have a zine page. I also chose to highlight what I felt were the key bands, including Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney, L7, and Bratmobile.

This project was one of my most fun to date and I was so happy to introduce this topic to new people!
