Marketing/Applied Design for the Temple University College of Engineering
Art Direction: Yael Branscom and Eriv Horvath
My senior year at Temple University, I was the Graphic Design Intern at their College of Engineering in the Office of Marketing/Communications. Essentially, anything that needed an image on it, I created. My job was to deliver materials that not only fit the branding of Temple, but the sub-branding of the college as well. When I came on the team they were actually in the middle of rebranding, so I got to be a part of that process. I learned so much about professionalism and applied design from the experience. This is a culmination of my biggest and best works from that year, all of which were made and distrubuted/used.
One of the first things I got to design was the back of the shirts that freshmen would wear for convocation. I used engineering related imagery to create the letters, something I had yet to see in previous iterations of the shirt. It was so cool to see people walk around campus in my shirt!
One thing I designed regularly for the college is screen monitors. These were all around the building, and it was always neat to see my work the second I walked in the door. The monitors were used to convey news about various events and organizations. As a part of the rebranding, I designed a template that people could follow in case I wasn’t there. I made these continually for the entire year.
It was also often my job to create posters for when bigger events happened. These would usually be printed out large and sit on various stands throughout the building. This is just one example of a poster I created at this internship.
I created this folder to hold acceptance letters/important papers for students. It went through many iterations, but by utilising the brand guides, I settled on a design. I think it makes everything feel more official and fancy.
As with any school, a lot of information was given to students via flyers. This is one example of a flyer that was handed out.
On of the larger projects I took on was designing the book for the Fall 2019 Senior Design. It contained all the teams projects, descriptions, majors, etc. and was handed out at the event. This was a very type-heavy project, but I think it turned out great!
Before the Senior Design event, I created display standees using what I thought were the most interesting looking project photos. These are even taller than me!
This postcard is sent to new/prospective students to get them excited about coming to Temple. The owl on the back is a sticker for their laptop.
The Senior Design book was such a success that I got to create the booklet for the State of the College as well. This was a summary of the biggest things that happened as well as student/faculty research that had happened in the year. This included the opening of the new IDEAS Hub.
The IDEAS Hub is a new collaborative space for engineering students to use. It has 3D printers, plenty of desk space, and even a robot arm! I not only got to design the logo for it, but also design window wraps that are now permanently installed. I went to opening day, and it was so aamazing to see something I made be a part of a physical space! I hope it stays for many years, and that many students get good use out of it.
