The Chopping Mall
Personal Branding Project Exercise
One of my favorite guilty pleasure horror movies is the 1986 classic, Chopping Mall. It’s schlocky, it’s silly, and it’s set in one of the most iconic shopping malls of all time (also known as the mall from Fast Times at Ridgemont High). I love it so much, I dedicated this entire just for fun branding project to revamping it and re-imagining it as a whole new shopping mall! Thank you, have a nice day!
The logo for this mall was inspired by the resurgence of art deco styling in the 80’s. This is then compounded by the fonts I chose, Mostra Nouva, Acier Bat, and Arbotek. The colors are based on the movie poster!
This project inlcudes icon designs that one would see in a real shopping mall, twisted and illustrated to fit the theme. I also designed pieces for the mall cafeteria, and various merch items! Everything is chock full of references to the silly dialogue and wild plot of Chopping Mall, so all in all it’s a place you’d want to visit!
I was raised on 80’s movies and music, and I had a real blast bringing this project to life! Sadly, the real mall no longer has any of the architecture of the film, so I guess we’ll have to live vicariously through our art instead!
I was never actually raised as a kid going to shopping malls quite like my parents, so this really was a wish fulfillment project!
Quack, quack! The Chopping Mall is a one stop shopping destination! Maybe just don’t work there.
